Once upon a time...

There was a prince who knew nothing. He was a prince who loved his people and wanted to express that affection by improving the lives of his citizens. However, all of his attempts to add to his knowledge in order to benefit his people ended in disappointment. Until one day, when the kingdom was hit by a terrible plague. Desperately, the prince turned to a traveling witch for help. He convinced her to cast a spell on him, one which would allow him to truly learn new information. The deal was successful, and the prince was consumed by newfound curiosity. He found himself traveling throughout the land, asking question after question, constantly adding new information to his mind.

However, no matter how many answers the prince received, he found himself unable to do anything other than asking more and more questions....

[Action]

[So Mytho has had a few weeks that have been eventful in the terms of getting some of his heart shards back. First was affection, which led to him spending more time around Rue. Then there was disappointment, which caused him to be somewhat withdrawn. And most recently, he has regained the desire for knowledge. Ever since last week, he has channeled this into studies. At school, he would be noticeable for asking questions frequently about even the most minor matters.

And this week, he goes around seeking some specific knowledge: the location of Rue. He's unaware that the rogue Malnosso's droids had kidnapped her. So he's been wandering around town, quick to inquire with anyone he sees, especially if he knows that the person in question knows her.]

[Voice]

I don't know where Rue has. Have you seen her? I don't know where she could be...

[He can't stop there. He already has another question on his mind.]

[He looks through the cupboards there until he finds a cutting board and a knife; that accomplished, he selects a rib of celery from among the ingredients, washes it off, places it on the cutting board, and then chops off the ends.]

Just make sure you keep your hands out of the way and you should be fine. All you have to do is cut it into little slices like this...

[And he demonstrates, slicing a few pieces off one end of the celery.]

See?

Yes. I see. [He watches each step carefully and attentively.]

Do you think that I could do that?

[Emil nods.]

I think so, just as long as you keep your fingers out of the way.

[He takes up a knife, instinctively wielding it like a sword.]

I see. I shouldn't cut any of my fingers...

N-not quite like that--!

[Carefully, Emil reaches out to help him position his hand around the knife properly.]

Oh...? [He lets Emil reposition his hand. It's the kind of thing he's used to Fakir or Rue doing whenever he holds something new.] Then, how should I regard my fingers...?

Um...

[Emil considers this, trying to think of some sort of analogy that Mytho might understand.]

... just keep them out of the way of the knife.

Okay. [And he raises his empty hand high into the air, while looking vacantly towards the celery.]

Should I try now, Emil?

[... this is going to take a while, isn't it?]

No, use your other hand to hold the celery, but be careful not to cut your fingers with the knife.

I'm sorry.

[He mutters automatically as he puts the hand down over the celery. And then, he tentatively takes a cut, mimicking Emil's moves accurately enough.]

[Emil watches, holding his breath for a moment (a part of him is waiting for the scream) until he realizes that Mytho is in fact doing just fine so far.]

That's right! Just like that. See, it's not so hard after all.

You're right, Emil. It doesn't seem to be particularly difficult at all.

[And he continues cutting - at a higher speed. His fingers always staying just outside the path of the blade.]

[Okay, that's making Emil a little nervous, but he isn't going to say anything about it for fear of disrupting Mytho's concentration and causing a disaster.]

Y-yeah, you're a natural at this.

I am? I've never known I would be considered that, Emil.

Once these are cut... What then?

Then you need to cut up the carrot and onion too. You cut the carrots the same way as the celery, but the onion is a little different. I'll show you how to do that one once we're finished with the carrot.

[He's already moving to rinse the carrot off so that they can cut it.]

Okay.

When should I be... cutting this carrot?

As soon as I'm done washing it. I just need to make sure that there isn't any dirt on it first.

Okay. So, the dirt... You don't want it to be part of the soup?

Um, you don't want dirt to be part of any food...

Really? I didn't know that I had wanted that...

[But he nods all the same.]

Okay.

[Emil finishes washing the carrot, then quickly dries it before handing it over to Mytho.]

Okay, now just cut this up the same way you cut the celery. Oh, and make sure to cut off the ends and throw them away first. You don't want to eat those parts.

[He wields the carrot for a moment, curiously investigating it, before he sets it right were the celery was.]

Okay. I'll cue off those pieces, then. [He cuts off each end.] Would anyone want to eat them...?

Not really. They're pretty tough, and one of them has the part with the stem, which you can't eat anyway.

[Those are some impressive carrot-wielding skills there, Mytho. Not particularly useful, but definitely interesting.]
